IDEC 2009 KOREA Programs

IDEC 2009 KOREA will be held from August 1 - 8, 2009.

Event 1: Empathy and Connection, at Kangwon National University in Chuncheon city, August 1~5.

* Opening Ceremony after dinner on August 1.
* Sharing of Ideas through Lectures, Workshops, Seminars and Discussions.
* Social Events including sports, arts & crafts, musical events and performances

One day tour: August 6.

* Visiting Alternative schools around the country
* DMZ Peace and Ecology Events (the border between North and South Korea)

* Arriving Seoul after the tour

Event 2: Alternatives in Education EXPO and Closing Festival, University of Seoul in Seoul city, August 7-8.

* Democratic Education World Festival
* Public Lectures
* Democratic Education Demonstrations, Exhibitions and Interactions
* Sharing The experience of Democratic Education
* Experience contemporary, everyday Korean culture: shopping, food, sightseeing and more.
*Closing ceremony

What will happen in IDEC 2009 Korea?

An eager willingness to communicate with one another.

1. Communicating with people beyond the scope of alternative schools. We are always willing to re-evaluate the various alternatives to mainstream education.

2. Sharing the philosophies, experiments, and practices that have influenced alternative education in South Korea.

3. Discussing the challenges, concerns and experiences about the alternative education of South Korea and the world.

4. Making the IDEC world festival cool, significant and exciting. We encourage the growing generations, through democratic education, to interact and communicate with their international peers, collecting the sweetest memories of the world.

-Conference fee : Adults - 250US$ / Youth - 200US$

Please Note!!!
-Activities have been planned for children of all ages. It is our goal to provide a stimulating environment for ALL visitors regardless of age.
- While in Korea, homestays are available.
- Pick-up at the airport is available. Please inform us of your flight schedule in advance.
- Joining IDEC with your own workshop is extremely welcomed, it will make you feel more involved as well as enhancing the idea of "cultural exchange"
- Financial support for participants from developing countries is possible. Please contact us for more details.
- Many Korean democratic schools would be very happy to welcome visitors either before or after IDEC 2009. If you choose to stay longer than the duration of the event, we will do our best to accommodate you.
